FAYETTEVILLE (KFSM) — Brandon Stanton, founder of the hit Facebook and Instagram account “Humans Of New York,” will be speaking at the University of Arkansas next month as part of their Distinguished Lecture series.

Stanton will be speaking in Bud Walton Arena on Monday, Oct. 3 at 7 p.m., according to a U of A article. Doors will open for the event at 6 p.m.

Stanton started the HONY project in 2010 as an out-of-work bond trader and part-time photographer. His initial goal was to photograph 10,000 New Yorkers and plot them on a map to catalog the city’s inhabitants. Eventually Stanton started interviewing the subjects as well, and these quotes and pictures became part of his wildly successful blog.

Stanton continued his project and has even expanded it to feature stories from more than 20 different countries.

Today HONY is one of the most popular accounts in the world with more than 22.5 million Facebook and Instagram followers. Stanton has also released two best-selling books, “Humans of New York” and “Humans of  New York: Stories.”
