GREENWOOD (KFSM) - A special ceremony will take place Friday (Sept. 16) to appreciate all our local law enforcement and first responders.

Not only are the players from Greenwood and Alma taking the field, but officers from different law enforcement agencies from around our area will also be under the bright lights.

Both the Greenwood High School Principal and Athletic Director wanted to think of an idea to honor our men and women in blue. "Greenwood does a great job in supporting our department," said Greenwood Police Chief Will Dawson. He adds, "This shows the community that we are here for them, and shows that they are here for us."

"This is just our way of recognizing them for what they do and we appreciate what they do on a daily basis," said Greenwood Athletic Director Dustin Smith.

Before the game, they will have officers and first responders take the field. They will have a short ceremony with each officer receiving a flag and taking part in the national anthem. Afterwards, all law enforcement will create a tunnel for the Greenwood Bulldogs to run through.

A big moment for the event will be when the game ball is delivered by K-9 Officer Kina. Several remember Greenwood K-9 Officer Kina, who went missing and was injured during a gunfight about a month ago. Well, she is back to work now with the police department and with her handler Dennis Wisner. "It's a great thing to allow the community to see that she's back on duty and she's doing well," said Dawson.

The ceremony will start at 6:45 p.m. and kickoff is at 7 p.m. in Greenwood.
