SCOTT COUNTY (KFSM) -- The Scott County Sheriff's Office released the identities of the victim and suspect involved in a deadly altercation over the weekend.

The sheriff's office said Jeffery Newell, 36, killed Hugh "Hoot" Strozier, 38, Sunday night (Sept. 18). Deputies responded to a house in the Nella community around 7:30 p.m. where they found Strozier dead from what appeared to be a stabbing, according to the sheriff's office.

Three children were also present at Newell's home where the altercation took place, the sheriff's office said. Those children were taken into DHS custody.

Strozier's body was taken to the Arkansas State Crime Lab to determine cause of death, according to the sheriff's office.

Newell is being held at the Scott County Jail on $250,000 bond, the sheriff's office said.

The Waldron Police Department and Arkansas State Police assisted in the investigation.
