SEBASTIAN COUNTY (KFSM) — The Sebastian County Humane Society said they are currently in a state of emergency with overcrowding.

According to their Facebook page, the shelter is filling up quicker than they are adopting out.

The shelter is in the process of trying to become a “no-kill” shelter. But due to the large number of animals, some of these dogs will have to be euthanized if they are not adopted, according to the Facebook page. Numerous adoption events have also been held this year to help keep numbers down.

The Sebastian County Humane Society is holding a $10 adoption special on large dogs from Thursday (Sept. 22) until Sunday (Sept. 25). The shelter is also asking for temporary fosters to care for and love the larger dogs for at least two weeks until more kennels open up.

Hours to adopt at the Sebastian County Humane Society:

  • Monday – Saturday, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.
  • Sunday 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
