CRAWFORD COUNTY (KFSM) — An inmate stole a Crawford County Sheriff’s Office unit Friday (Sept. 23) and crashed it on Interstate 40 between Van Buren and Alma, according to the sheriff’s office.

The inmate, identified as Necolle Speaks, was brought to the Crawford County Courthouse in Van Buren for a hearing and she escaped using a back door, then took an unmarked deputy vehicle, the sheriff’s office said.

necolle-speaksSpeaks was being held in jail on a list of drug charges, according to the sheriff’s office.

She was pursued by several agencies before officers hit the back of the vehicle she was driving, which caused it to spin out into a ditch in a wood area near Exit 12, the sheriff’s office said. Speaks was then taken into custody.

While she was being pursued, Speaks is believed to have used the radio in the vehicle, according to the sheriff’s office.

The sheriff’s office is investigating whether the key to the vehicle Speaks stole was left in the ignition.
