The Janet Huckabee River Valley Nature Center hosts tons of ways for kids and adults to experience the outdoors for free!

For the 10th year, they just had their Fab5 competition to teach kids adventure skills. Sean Bailey takes us there in this week’s Adventure Arkansas.

With Fall weather finally moving in, it’s perfect timing for kids to learn lots of different ways to shoot at the Janet Huckabee Nature Center.

At the Nature Center Chad Lowe, Education Specialist said they have something for everybody.

“Today is National Hunting and Fishing Day for this year and we got a lot of activities out here,” said Lowe. “We are trying to expand on our archery of course this year so we got our archery trap machine, bow fishing, 3d archery, climbing wall laser shot and target casting and bee bee guns.”

For Devin, his favorite part of archery is the 3D animals he tried to shoot.

"I nearly hit the deer, but I missed every one of them," said Devin.

Nathan Whorton and his daughters came all the way from Paris, Arkansas to participate. They practiced their shooting skills and had a blast.

“They love it, I try to introduce them to new things all the time and so this is a great thing,” said Whorton. “I’m appreciative of those who have put this on, it’s a wonderful thing for kids.”

Other than the different ways to practice shooting, there’s other ways to have outdoor fun and learn new skills including the rock wall like Kaya did.

"When you get to the top you get to hit the buzzer, then you get to just fly down or hang down." said Kaya.

Even if you missed the competition last weekend, the center still hosts chances to learn archery and other outdoor skills for free every weekend

"We’re family oriented because we want our families to participate together and try these activities together so they can do this on their own,” said Lowe. “So that’s what we are trying to encourage."

The guided hike, canoe, kayak and laser shot programs are every Saturday and Archery is every Sunday.
