UPDATE: Suspect In Custody After Standoff In Lowell

LOWELL (KFSM)– A man is now in custody following a police standoff on Tumbleweed Street in the Prairie Meadows neighborhood Saturday morning (Oct. 1).

When Lowell police tried to approach a man, reported to be suicidal inside his home, he walked outside carrying a weapon and made threats to officers, according to a release.

The suspect has been identified as 44-year-old Samuel Barnes III.

Police were called in around 5:45 a.m.  The Benton County Sheriff’s Office SWAT Team and Negotiation Team came into help after police set up a perimeter and called for backup.  Law enforcement negotiated with the man until he exited his house.  He was taken into custody without incident around 10:15 a.m.

Barnes made several more threats stating he would harm officers and himself during the standoff, according to police.

The Bethel Heights Police Department also responded to the situation.
