YELL COUNTY (KFSM) — Yell County Sheriff Bill Gilkey confirmed, via Facebook, the victim of Friday’s fall on Mount Nebo was Pope County attorney John Burnett.
Gilkey confirmed that a Pope County man died in a hiking accident at the park.
Park officials and area law enforcement investigated the death, that happened along the Rim Trail.
Authorities were responded to the scene just after 5:30 p.m., and completed on-site investigation work just before 9 p.m.
Gilkey said that the male victim slipped on some rocks along the trail, falling about 40 feet before coming to rest.
Several agencies participated in the investigation including Yell County Mounted Patrol officers, State Park Rangers and other park personnel, Yell County Emergency Medical Technicians and the Coroner.
