FAYETTEVILLE (KFSM) – Dozens of Republicans and Democrats gathered in Fayetteville Tuesday (Oct. 4) night, to watch Indiana Gov. Mike Pence, and Virginia Sen. Tim Kaine debate. The debate was the only meeting the two candidates would have before election night in November.

"Tonight [was] a do-no-harm debate, where they can articulate the message and policy,” said Tyler Clark, spokesman for the Washington County Democrats.

"I think the economy is a really important [topic] that I [wanted] to hear about personally, as someone who is about to graduate college, and try and find a job," said Sydney Combs, President of the College Republicans at the University of Arkansas.

Following the debate, both sides said they hoped the top of each ticket would notice that substance in policy is the main focus most people desire to learn more about.

“I just think a lot of the important policies they hit on tonight, I think Trump needs to mention them on Sunday,” Combs said. “I hope he hits home, and goes off what Pence has been saying.”

“What you saw tonight was a clear plan for America. The Clinton-Kaine plan, and the Trump-Pence plan,  which is not a plan [and has] no substance at all,” Clark said. “Moving forward, you see a clear direction for the nation, which is important for the voters come November 8th.”
