SPRINGDALE (KFSM) — A park named after a Springdale and Arkansas legend was dedicated on Thursday (Oct. 6) after extensive renovations.

Bobby Hopper Park first opened in the early 1980s. The improvements have been in the works for the last year.

The updates to the park include new playground equipment, soccer fields, a renovated restroom facility and picnic area, fencing around the park and a paved parking lot.

Mayor Doug Sprouse said the small park serves as a link between the residents and their community.

“These types of green spaces and these types of amenities are important for growth and for economic growth,” Sprouse said. “And I think the more we’ve seen over the years, the more people understand that and are connecting those dots.”

The renovations to the park cost the city around half a million dollars.

The Bobby Hopper Park is located off of Emma Avenue near Parsons Stadium.
