FORT SMITH (KFSM) - One local Salvation Army wants your help by giving coats to less fortunate families. All you have to do is donate a gently used coat and drop it off at a Mr. Rob's Cleaners locations.

Salvation Army has hosted this yearly coat drive because the number of people living on the streets who are unable to afford simple luxuries like coats continues to grow.

All the coats collected will be cleaned at Mr. Rob's and will then go straight to the Salvation Army Thrift Stores around the area.

"I think of something that you haven't used in awhile could really make a difference to someone," said Acie Turner with the Salvation Army.

Low income families will then be able to pick them up for free. Families in need of the coats must first sign up at the Salvation Army on North 6th Street to receive a voucher.

The goal of this is to make sure everyone stays warm during the winter season. Last year, more than 500 coats were collected during the Coat For Kids drive. However, this coat drive isn't just for the children. Coats for adults are also accepted during the drive.

"We have heard some stories of people that come into social service office at the first of the year and say I was so grateful for that coat," said Turner.

Not only coats are being collected, but you can also drop off gloves, hats, or scarves now until Oct. 30.
