SPRINGDALE (KFSM) — The Springdale Police Department announced Tuesday (Oct. 11) officers made an arrest in connection to a shooting at a Walmart Supercenter that happened Sunday night and left one man injured.

Officers arrested Geovanny Perez-Cruz, 18, of Springdale, Monday on suspicion of attempted murder and carrying a weapon, according to Lt. Derek Wright.

Investigators determined Perez-Cruz and the victim, Daniel Luna, 25, also of Springdale, were acquaintances who got into a verbal confrontation inside the Walmart on Elm Springs Road and then moved out into the parking lot, Wright said. That is where Perez-Cruz shot Luna in the arm, according to police.

Perez-Cruz left the scene and Luna went back inside the store where officers found him after responding to a gunshots call, Wright said.

Luna was taken to Washington Regional Medical Center for treatment, according to police.

Perez-Cruz told police he shot Luna by mistake and did not want to kill him, his arrest report states. Currently, he is being held at the Washington County Detention Center and his bond has not yet been set.
