BENTON COUNTY (KFSM) — The Arkansas State Police Crimes Against Children Division has had to review 149 cases that were assigned to a civilian investigator after her reports were called into question, according to ASP.
Whitney Loran Adams, 49, surrendered to ASP Oct. 27 and is now facing a felony charge of tampering with a public record, Bill Sadler with ASP said. She is scheduled to appear in Benton County Circuit Court on Dec. 5.
Adams was hired by the Criminal Investigation Division in September 2014 as a civilian investigators with specific duties to investigate allegations of child maltreatment received by the state’s Child Abuse Hotline, Sadler said.
After completing her training, Adams met with her supervisor on three occasions between January and November 2015 to review timeliness standards, according to Sadler. On Jan. 11, 2016, a Crimes Against Children Division area supervisor, who had conducted a random audit, questioned the integrity of reports Adams had prepared, ASP said.
The commander of the Crimes Against Children Division questioned Adams two days later and she was placed on administrative leave, according to Sadler. She resigned Jan. 14. That same day ASP began a review of the cases assigned to Adams and confirmed the safety of the child who had been the subjects of the investigations, Sadler said.
