Spiro Playoff-Bound Amid Turnaround Season

The Spiro football team was win-less last season, but this fall they have a winning record heading into the 2A playoffs.

SPIRO (KFSM)-Around this time last year Spiro's season came to an end with a win-less record and no postseason hopes. Now, the Bulldogs have made a dramatic turnaround, and are the number-3 seed heading into the 2-A playoffs this week.

"It's been a lot better than last year," said Bulldogs' sophomore Deontei Braggs. "The whole attitude and everything is different."

Instead of letting last season define them, the returning players and new additons to the team were determined to work on playing more cohesively. After the disappointing 2015 campaign the players started putting in extra effort during the off-season.

"We got closer together this summer," said Bulldogs' coach Chris Bunch. "We went to some team camps and I really think that helped us get closer to each other. They are pulling for each other now, instead of just pulling for themselves. "

Their dedication paid off, finishing the regular season with a 6-4 record...and though they are taking playoffs one step at a time they would like to cap their comeback season with a State title.

"Right now it's one week at a time," said running back Landon Moore. "One game at a time, and eventually we will get to hopefully we'll get to the end, get to the state championship."

Spiro will play  at Okemah Nov. 11th at 7:00 p.m.
