Dietz, Hillbillies Snap Three-Year Playoff Skid

The Ozark Hillbillies are making a run for a State title.

OZARK (KFSM)- The Ozark Hillbillies haven't been a part of the 4A playoffs in three-years. But, a win over Dover last Friday not only ended that short drought, it also secured home advantage for the first-round of the playoffs this year. Hillbillies' coach Jeremie Burns says he wasn't surprised that they made it to postseason play.

"We thought we had a chance," said Burns. "If everything came together, we just had some young guys come along and helped us."

One of those younger players that helped Ozark was quarterback Dawson Dietz. The sophomore has had a big first season as a starter, topping  1,000 yards passing and 11-touchdowns. Dietz made it a goal prior to the season to surpass over 1,000 yards passing.

"It felt amazing," said Dietz. "Great teammates, great group effort to make it happen, it was a goal of mine coming in and it felt good to get it off my chest."

Dietz and the Hillbillies are taking the playoffs one game at a time, but the young QB does have another goal he would like to accomplish to cap his sophomore season.

"Just build on it survive and advance," said Dietz. "Help this team move on. We want to go to the rock, we want to win it all."

Ozark will play Ashdown in the first round of the 4A playoffs Friday at 7:00 p.m.
