FAYETTEVILLE (KFSM) — Washington Regional Medical Center prepared for the opening of its Women and Infant Center with an inaugural helicopter flight landing on its second and newest helipad on Thursday afternoon (Nov. 10).
The Arkansas Children’s Hospital Arkansas One flight crew landed on top of the new helipad, which tops the roof of the five-story patient tower of the Women and Infant Center, shortly before 1 p.m. They were greeted by some of the facility’s administrators.
The 132,800-square-foot facility will be opening to patients on Monday (Nov. 14). It will be will providing state-of-the-art care for families.
It has 28 patient rooms and 17 rooms for labor and delivery, and it also includes the largest Neonatal Intensive Care Unit in Northwest Arkansas with 34 beds. The facility has a pharmacy and a milk lab, which will help newborns get specialized nutrition and care while they are in the NICU.
The center has private patient rooms, which allow parents to stay with their newborns until they are ready to head home from the hospital. They also have designated rooms for twins or multiples.
The top floor of the facility will be home to one of the largest Ronald McDonald Houses in the area. The Ronald McDonald House provides a comforting place for families to stay if a child is forced to spend extended periods in the hospital.
Additionally, there is a floor dedicated to gynecology and pediatric patients. The children's rooms come with Xbox One gaming consoles, and there are areas dedicated to helping students catch up with school work.
In addition to the Women and Infants Center, the building also houses the Parkhill Clinic for Women and the HerHealth Women's Clinic.
