FAYETTEVILLE (KFSM) — Time to bring the outside plants indoors and have the extra blankets on hand tonight (Nov. 12).

While it’s a clear sky and the stars look nice, near-freezing temperatures are expected overnight in Arkansas.

The National Weather Service has a widespread hard freeze warning in effect from midnight tonight (Nov. 12) to 9 a.m. on Sunday (Nov. 13).

Low temperatures will range from the upper 20s to the low 30s.

A cold, dry air mass has moved into the area and there will be a clear sky and light wind that will allow the heat to escape.

“Clouds are like a blanket that keeps the heat from escaping,” said National Weather Service Forecaster Daryl Williams, ” but, there will be very little mixing in the atmosphere and that causes the dip in the temperature.”

Williams said it will be cold in the morning and will warm up into the 60s during the day on Sunday (Nov. 12).

There will be more mild temps for Sunday night into Monday morning (Nov. 13).

So, if you’re heading out Sunday morning make sure you bundle up.  For Monday morning you can probably lose the scarf and stick with a jacket.
