It’s been a dry year. In NW Arkansas we’re -10.84 below normal; in the Fort Smith area, we’re -12.27 below normal.

That’s 28% less than we normally see this time of year and it doesn’t look like any big rain events will affect us in the coming days.

The best chance for rain this week will be on Friday with a fast moving cold front.

This is a look at the areas of rain arriving early in the day on Friday as the cold front moves into the area.

Expect breezy north winds behind the front but likely not much in the way of heavy rain.

Rainfall projections for the next week show only around 1/4 of an inch in Arkansas and Eastern Oklahoma.

Normally in November we pick up around 4″ of rain. So far this month we haven’t any rain in Fort Smith with NW Arkansas only around 0.10″.

We’re nearing “Severe Drought” conditions in SW Arkansas with “Abnormally Dry” conditions across much of the area.

The November, December, January forecast from the Climate Prediction Center shows high probabilities of drier than normal conditions and the drought stretching into the winter and possibly next year.
