CAVE SPRINGS (KFSM) — The Cave Springs mayor announced the results of a special population census on Monday (Nov. 14), which showed that the city has doubled in population since 2010.

Mayor Travis Lee said that the U.S. Census Bureau released the census figures taken for the city earlier this summer, according to a city press release. The city’s population had more than doubled, jumping from 1,729 to 3,811 in about six years.

Lee said based on the city’s residential permitting pace, the city is on track to hit a population of 5,000 by the 2020 census, the release states.

The city has also risen in ranks to the 82nd largest city in Arkansas, up from the 138th largest in 2010.

The city has now passed the population needed to be classified as a first-class city, according to the release. Cities with a population greater than 2,500 are considered first-class cities.
