FAYETTEVILLE (KFSM) — A second case of mumps has been confirmed at Fayetteville High School on Wednesday (Nov. 16), according to a school press release.

This is the second student at FHS with a confirmed case of the mumps, after another high school student was diagnosed with the mumps last Wednesday (Nov. 9).

School custodians will be doing additional cleaning at the school, the release states.

The Arkansas Department of Health requires students in the same school with a student who has a confirmed case of mumps who have vaccine exemptions for the mumps vaccine or no record of the vaccination to be excluded from school for 26 days from the date of exposure. Students with non-medical exemptions, who receive the mumps vaccine, may return to school immediately.

Mumps cases have also been reported in the Bentonville, Rogers and Springdale School Districts.
