FAYETTEVILLE(KFSM) -- The Walton Arts Center has reopened Saturday (Nov. 19) after more than a year of renovations.

A ribbon-cutting ceremony was held on Tyson Plaza at the corner of West Avenue and Dickson Street and dozens turned out for the reopening ceremony.

This is the first time the center has undergone any major changes since it first opened in 1992. The arts center is a major staple for Northwest Arkansas visual and performing arts sector.

President and CEO Peter Lane hopes the expansion will attract larger performing companies for the WAC's 25th anniversary season.

"When I look at the impact the Walton Art Center has today and what it will have thanks to this renovation, it's extraordinary," he said.

Businesses owners on Dickson Street hope the reopening of the arts center will bring in extra foot traffic for their stores.

Walton Arts Center's Baum Walker Hall, will host its first performance, Canada's Royal Winnipeg Ballet's "The Nutcracker," on Nov. 25th.
