FAYETTEVILLE(KFSM)-- While most major chain stores are getting ready for Black Friday, local businesses along the Fayetteville square are preparing for Small Business Saturday.

Small Business Saturday was started in 2009 by American Express to help small businesses get through the recession.

Marjo Burke said she loves holiday shopping in local stores throughout her community because it gives her a chance to support local businesses and in turn they support the local economy.

The benefits of shopping locally not only affect the economy, it also gives locals a chance to learn something new about the products they're buying.

"We love teaching people about tea and we really try to encourage people to try new things. We even do tea classes where we have a tea specialist come in and answer any question you have about tea." said Jimi Paige, store owner of Savoy Tea.

Since the start of Small Business Saturday, local businesses have seen a major increase in sales traffic each year.
