FAYETTEVILLE (KFSM) -- While many people tend to crowd major retailers to shop on Black Friday (Nov. 25), many local stores were also rolling out great deals.

"It`s so fun after the holidays to see the amount of people that come out in the community and support our business and it`s just great to see people shopping for the holidays," Savannah Murphree, who works at Riffraff on the Fayetteville Square said.

She said when the store opened at 8 a.m. there was a line out the door. Riffraff will also be participating  in Small Business Saturday.

Small business owners said not only are the two shopping days good for business, they are essential to their financial well-being.

“As a retailer, the Christmas season is the most important season of the year. So it`s really critical that everybody get out and shop and support your neighbors, support your community and shop small,” Jennifer Creel, who owns Terra Tots, which is also on the square, said.

She believes local businesses are the backbone of the community.

“I think there are a lot of people who shop small businesses and are looking for that special product and that special smile and special customer service that goes along with a local business,” Creel said.

Small Business Saturday is Nov. 26. It was started by American Express in 2010 as a way to encourage people to shop small and support their local communities.
