WASHINGTON COUNTY (KFSM) — A woman faces three felony charges after she and her son reportedly stole nearly $10,000 from an elderly woman.
Amy Allen, 32, of West Fork was arrested Thanksgiving Day (Nov. 24) in connection with felony abuse of adults through exploitation, fraudulent use of a credit card(s) and theft of property. She remained the following day in Washington County Detention Center in lieu of a $5,000 bond.
She is accused of forging, cashing and withdrawing money from the elderly woman, and racking up nearly $8,900 in miscellaneous charges within a seven month time.
She reportedly obtained bank cards and checks while serving as a home health nurse.
Her son also reportedly stole from the elderly woman. According to police, he made three fraudulent charges onto her credit card. He was not arrested as of Friday evening.
Surveillance video shows both Allen and her son making fraudulent charges and withdraws using the bank card, according to an arrest report.
The elderly woman told a detective Allen took advantage of her, and that Allen was directed to use the bank cards only if helping. She said Allen was never given permission to access the bank accounts for her personal use. She only gave Allen permission to use the bank cards and checks for grocery purchases, paying bills and if she (elderly woman) needed cash, the report states.
The detective also spoke with the elderly woman’s son who told him Allen manipulated his mother, cut her off from family, closed bank accounts that had his name on them and opened new accounts, according to the report.
Additionally, the son told the detective he thinks Allen purposely overmedicated his mother so she was more vulnerable and could easily be manipulated, the report states.
Allen was fired from the company in which she was employed for violating employment policies, according to police. Another reason was because drug paraphernalia that reportedly belongs to her was found in the elderly woman’s home.
A nurse who was hired to care for the woman after Allen was fired also told investigators the woman was overmedicated, and that Allen had given the woman two to four times more medication than what was prescribed, the report states.
During a recorded interview with the detective, Allen admitted to theft and fraud, police said.
