SPRINGDALE (KFSM) -- An organization that is helping revitalize downtown Springdale held a holiday event Saturday (Nov. 26) that they hope will become a tradition in the area for years to come.

The Springdale Downtown Alliance organized Christmas on the Creek, which included a full day of events and activities that culminated with the lighting of what they say is the largest live Christmas tree in the state.

Executive Director Misty Murphy said this is just another effort to refocus the community's attention on downtown.

"This event is to bring people back to the heart of their community and remind them what great assets we have here and what great businesses we have here," she said. "Just that sense of community that maybe downtown lost over the last few years, but I feel like it's really going strong again."

Children were able to make ornaments and write letters to Santa. Local businesses also donated decorated Christmas trees for an auction benefiting activities and groups at the junior high schools in Springdale.
