FORT SMITH (KFSM) -- After nearly 30 years, the Crystal Palace skating rink in Fort Smith closed its doors for good Sunday (Nov. 27).

It is where Dwayne Wallace, who once worked at the rink, met his wife of 27 years.

"Everybody was back dancing, partying, having a good time," he said as he came to say good-bye to the local landmark.

Wallace said his daughter, Kara, was practically raised there.

"It means the world to me," she said. "I've literally been here since birth."

Wallace's memories are just some of countless others. Nicky Petrucci looked back fondly at some of the less-than-pleasant tasks that were made a little easier thanks to her coworkers.

"We talk a lot about Wednesday clean-up day where we had to come in and scrape the gum off the bottom of the tables," she recalled.

But the rink will live on as part of the memories it helped make.

"I'll more than likely skate till I can't skate no more," Kara Wallace said.

"We're losing a part of history," her father added. "It's been here a long time. Some people, it means a lot to -- some people, it, you know, it's home."
