FORT SMITH (KFSM) — The U.S. Marshals Museum announced plans to participate in Giving Tuesday, an international day of giving for philanthropists and supporters, on Tuesday (Nov. 29).

The museum is partnering with Downtown Fort Smith Business Association to boost donations and build community support.

“When the museum officially opens its doors on September 24, 2019, it will bring increased foot traffic and tourism dollars directly to downtown Fort Smith,” said Patrick Weeks, president and CEO of the U.S. Marshals Museum. “That’s why this holiday partnership between the museum and the Downtown Fort Smith Business Association is the perfect fit.”

Dozens of local businesses in Fort Smith have committed to giving a portion of their proceeds to the U.S. Marshals Museum. A full list of participating businesses can be found on the museum’s Facebook page. The shops will display signs in their windows and employees will wear #TheTimeisNow t-shirts. Donation boxes will be set up at each location.

“We hope everyone will stop by our office on Tuesday, make a donation and share in some holiday cheer with the museum team,” Weeks said.

The museum will host an open house on Giving Tuesday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at its office at 14 North 3rd Street, Suite D. The Downtown Fort Smith Association will present the proceeds from the previous Small Business Saturday as the first gift of the day. There will also be a donor matching gift of $10,000 total for the day.

Donations can be submitted in person, online at usmm.co/giveusmm or by calling (479) 709-3766.
