ARKANSAS (KFSM) — After spending money on ourselves or our families on Black Friday and Cyber Monday, it’s time for ‘Giving Tuesday’ (Nov. 29).
The worldwide campaign is gaining momentum to help non-profits in our communities. The U.S. Marshals Museum in Fort Smith is one of the groups hoping for donations to roll in.
This is the third year the Marshal’s Museum has taken part in ‘Giving Tuesday’. At this time, the museum has raised half the money needed to open its doors in downtown Fort Smith.
The museum raised $30,000 on ‘Giving Tuesday’ two years ago, and said every little bit helps to keep the opening date on track for September 24th, 2019.
“These donations will go directly towards the foundation of the U.S. Marshals Museum,” said Alice Alt, Vice President of Development.
The museum is holding an open house on Tuesday at their office on North 3rd Street.
Dozens of local businesses committed themselves to giving part of their sales from Small Business Saturday to the museum. The Downtown Fort Smith Association will present the donation Tuesday at the open house. An anonymous donor also pledged to match the first $10,000 raised.
According to Alt, “This project cannot succeed without the support of the community, and what a blessing it is to have that support on Giving Tuesday.” She adds, “Any amount that you can give, whether online, in person or over the phone will be exceptional to the project.”
The museum said it still needs about $30 million to reach its goal. If you’d like to help, you can stop by the open house from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at their office.

In Northwest Arkansas, a local farmer at Tri Cycles Farm is hoping to raise enough money throughout the year to increase the community outreach.
“Our plan for ‘Giving Tuesday’ is to launch our year-end giving campaign. We hope to raise $30,000 in 33 days,” farmer Don Bennett said.
Most non-profits have posted links to their social media sites to aid those who would like to give and they offer incentives for in person donations.
The Oasis shelter of Northwest Arkansas is giving away a cup of coffee to each person that donates $15 to their charity.
If you weren’t prepared for this ‘Giving Tuesday’ event, you don’t have to wait until next year. Non-Profits collect donations throughout the year to keep helping those in need.
