SPRINGDALE (KFSM) — A Springdale officer fired at a man who threatened officers with a handgun and didn’t comply with officers’ requests to drop it on Tuesday morning (Nov. 29).

Springdale officers were dispatched to a home on Gibbons Drive around 6:50 a.m. on Tuesday, after a report of a domestic disturbance between a couple and their adult son, Jeremy Dunbar, according to a press release.

When officers arrived, the parents told officers they’d had a dispute with their 40-year-old son last night, which had continued to the morning, the release states. Officers went inside the home to talk to Dunbar, who brandished a handgun at one of the officers.

Dunbar refused officers’ requests to drop his weapon, so one of the Springdale officers fired his gun, but did not hit Dunbar. The release states Dunbar then dropped the gun, but he still didn’t comply with officers requests. Then he was tased and taken into custody.

Dunbar was transported to Northwest Medical Center for a mental health evaluation, according to the release. Charges for him are pending.

The officer who fired his gun was placed on administrative leave while the incident is investigated, per department policy.
