FORT SMITH (KFSM) — A nearly $30,000 grant  given to the mayor during a presentation Monday (Dec. 5) is going to enhance downtown Fort Smith.

A $29,900 check was presented to Strategic Community Investments through the Partnership Grant Program. Grant funding will be used for studies and research related to urban planning and development for the downtown area.

During the ceremony, Fort Smith Mayor Sandy Sanders joined representatives from the six banks that are apart of the partnership. Those banks include Arvest Bank, Bank of the Ozarks, Centennial Bank, First National Bank, Simmons Bank and the Federal Home Loan Bank of Dallas.

Through the partnership, up to $4,000 is contributed by one of the five local banks to a community-based organization. The Federal Home Loan Bank of Dallas then adds to the contributions.
