SOUTH CAROLINA (CBS News) — An inmate serving a life sentence at the McCormick Correctional Institution is on the run after escaping Wednesday night (Dec. 7), reports CBS Augusta, Georgia affiliate WRDW-TV.
The station cites McCormick County dispatch as saying Michael Alan Williams, 47, may have slipped out in a food service truck, but authorities weren’t sure.
The South Carolina Department of Corrections says Williams was behind bars on a life sentence plus five years for an armed robbery and assault/battery with the intent to kill in Greenville County, S.C.
Police said they didn’t have a lead on which direction Williams might have been headed in.
