FAYETTEVILLE (KFSM) -- An Ozark Regional Transit commuter route from Fayetteville to Bentonville and back will begin in 2017.
ORT is outfitting three 55-passenger vehicles for the new route, according to a press release.
The route will pick up passengers at the south parking lot outside J.C. Penny in the Northwest Arkansas Mall and drop them off at a business area adjacent to the Walmart home office at 8th Street and Southwest "F" Street.
The first route will leave from the mall parking lot at 6:45 a.m. on Jan. 2, and make a return trip from Bentonville at 5 p.m.
The service will cost about $160 a month, which will average out to roughly $8 per day round trip. People can also purchase a "walk-on" option for $6 one way or $12 round trip, which is subject to seating availability.
The buses will have free Wi-Fi, and eventually will have spaces for passengers to carry on a bicycle.
ORT said taking the commuter route will allow passengers to use their travel time getting work done, giving them more free time in the morning and evening.
