FORT SMITH (KFSM) -- Police are searching for a suspect who was caught on surveillance camera stealing a woman's wallet out of her purse at a Fort Smith business.
Natalie Brown said she was working as a cashier at the Dollar General on Phoenix Avenue when her wallet full of Christmas gift money was stolen.
“A a gentlemen walked into the store, walked into the office, stole my wallet out of my purse and walked out,” she explained.
Brown was working Sunday afternoon (Dec. 11) when the incident happened. The suspect was in and out of the store in a matter of two minutes. Shortly after the crime, the suspect swiped Brown’s debit card at Fennys’ convenience store on Towson Avenue and tried to use the ATM.
Although he only spent more than $30 at the gas station, her wallet also had $300 in cash, which she had been saving for Christmas for her teenage boys.
“This close to Christmas, it just really hurt,” Brown said.
The thief also got away with her credit cards, grocery money, driver’s license, military ID card and sentimental items that cannot be replaced.
“Last night I didn't sleep because whoever took my wallet knows where I live,” Brown said.
She added her kids have been supportive of the entire situation.
“They’ve been real understanding, and they even said, 'Mom we don`t need anything for Christmas.’”
