"It's a cane that's hand carved that I picked up when I was serving in Vietnam," Bottoms said.

He returned to the store the next day after he realized his cane was missing, but he wasn't able to find it.

"I went to Walmart and checked and they said they'd look it up on their cameras," Bottoms said. "They found [on the recording] where the person had taken it, and recommended that I go to the Fayetteville Police."

The Fayetteville Police Department turned to its Facebook page, asking for more information on two people who were last seen pushing the car with the cane.

In a matter of hours, Bottoms was reunited with his prized possession.

"Oh I'm very happy. Very, very happy," Bottoms said. "it just made Christmas that much more enjoyable this year."

The woman in the picture wrote on the department's Facebook page that she had tried returning the cane to a store associate, but was unsuccessful. She added that she had always planned to return it to the store but hadn't yet found the time.

Bottoms said he's grateful to her and everyone who helped.

"I'm thankful to her and everybody else that got it back," said Bottoms.
