SEBASTIAN COUNTY (KFSM) — Four agencies are participating in a four-day warrant amnesty program for people who have specific misdemeanor warrants out. The warrants are primarily for failing to pay fines and costs, and failing to appear in court.

The Sebastian County Sheriff’s Office, Fort Smith Police Department, and Fort Smith and Greenwood District Courts are the agencies participating in the program that will occur between Monday, Dec. 19 and Thursday, Dec. 22.

Only those who have misdemeanor warrants issued by the Fort Smith District Court for failing to pay a court-ordered fine or who have a delinquent payment plan, have failed to answer to a traffic summons or have failed to appear in court for a misdemeanor offense may participate.

For those who have misdemeanor warrants issued by the Greenwood District Court for contempt of court for not paying fines, failed to appear warrant for contempt of court, or a traffic warrant may participate.

All participants will be required to go to one of the two district clerk’s offices in the town in which the warrant was issued between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. Also, they’ll also be required to pay a $20 fee. Those who turn themselves in will be issued a new court date and won’t be jailed.
