BENTON COUNTY (KFSM) -- The Benton County Sheriff's Office is investigating a homicide that happened near Garfield, Thursday (Feb. 23).

James Appleton, 59, died as a result of getting shot in his head, said Benton County Sheriff Shawn Holloway.

Police found Appleton's body inside a vehicle on Gann Ridge Road in Garfield shortly after 4 p.m.

Appleton's body is being sent to the Arkansas State Crime Lab for an autopsy.

Grant Hardin, 48, who lives on Gann Ridge Road, is facing capital murder charges, Holloway said. No bond has been set for Hardin.

Holloway added there are no other suspects involved, and deputies do not think the public is in danger. He also said he will not releasing a motive at this time.

Viewers told 5NEWS that the road was blocked for several hours while police investigated the shooting.

The investigation continues.

Hardin's next court appearance will be April 3.
