FAYETTEVILLE (KFSM)- Vanderbilt overpowered Arkansas in game-two Saturday night winning 6-2, evening the series. Arkansas drops to 36-14 overall and 15-10 in conference play.

Saturday’s game was a battle of the aces. Arkansas sent out their pitching star Blaine Knight, while Vanderbilt countered with Kyle Wright. Wright and the commodores would come out as the victors of the pitcher duel. Knight was dealing early but ran into some trouble allowing the first score of the game which was a solo home run by Vandy’s Will Toffey. Knight’s stint on the mound lasted for five innings, allowing one run off six hits.

Wright pitched a no-hitter all the way into the sixth inning. Jax Biggers broke the no-hitter with a one-out single to left field. The right-hander threw for seven innings, striking out 11. Wright retired 21 of the 24 batters he faced, only surrendering two hits and a walk.

“He was awfully good,” said Arkansas head coach Dave Van Horn. “We had a couple of shots at him and he got off the hook. He’s as good as advertised.”

Arkansas was able to score two runs in the bottom of the ninth inning to avoid the shutout.

The rubber match between Arkansas and Vanderbilt will be at 1:00 p.m. Sunday on the SECN+.
