SPIRO (KFSM) — One person is dead after they crashed while flying a small aircraft north of Spiro Friday(May 26) night, according to Oklahoma Highway Patrol.
He’s been identified as Richard Biggerstaff, Jr., 43, from Midland Texas.
The man was flying a Tera Motor Ultralight aircraft, according to OHP Trooper Cody Jackson.
The incident happened shortly after 7: 30 p.m. just off County Road D4815 near Arkoma.
An eyewitness at the scene told authorities he saw the pilot takeoff and crash. The pilot was in the air for about 20 minutes before making a steep right turn and spiraling to the ground, said Jackson.
The pilot’s vehicle was found parked nearby and was towed away, according to troopers on scene.
