ROGERS, Ark (KFSM) -- A group of Northwest Arkansas photographers and volunteers gathered to take family portraits for the holidays, for people who may not afford them otherwise on Saturday (Dec. 2).

The goal of "Help-Portrait" is to find a person or family in need, take and print their portrait.

The Salinas family was one of the families who took part in the event this year.

"It means a lot to us you know we’ve...we haven’t been able to do this," Johanna Salinas said. "When we saw that we could, we went for it.”

The family said this is the first time they have been able to take a picture together.

Johanna's brother Manuel said their mom never had any pictures of all of them.

Each family received a CD with multiple photos on it and one printed portrait for free.

“We’re just very grateful that they were very patient with me and patient with all of us and they were really nice," Johanna said. "No complaints at all, they were great.”
The Photographic Society of Northwest Arkansas puts on the national event in NWA every year.
Miranda Viney is one of their volunteer photographers.
She said she takes a lot of photos throughout the year, but helping people with this event is by far her favorite.
Viney explained every family has a different reason for why they may need a little help doing something many other families do every year.
"We’ve had mothers come in with children with disabilities that we take a little bit of extra time with and mothers starting over again after bad situations," Viney said. "And it just helps them rebuild.”
She said they receive help from local group every year to find families.

Last year, in December, more than 500 people were photographed, by 29 photographers and 175 volunteers at three locations in NWA, according to their website.
