Suspect Arrested In Connection To Fort Smith Death

FORT SMITH (KFSM) --A suspect has been arrested in connection to the murder of a Fort Smith woman, according to Fort Smith police.

Robin Jones, 46, was arrested Friday night (Dec. 15) on suspicion of first-degree murder, according to police.

Investigators also located her missing red 2000 Nissan Frontier. Corporal Anthony Rice with Fort Smith said the vehicle was found in rural Crawford County.

Police were dispatched to a residence on North 39th Street for a welfare check after Margaret Scamardo, 67, didn't show up for work for several days.

Investigators said when they arrived they smelled gas at the home and forced their way inside. Arkansas/Oklahoma Gas company disconnected the gas lines.

Scamardo was found dead on the floor of her home, according to investigators.

"It's quite sad," neighbor Amanda Key said. "I was hoping it wasn't suspicious. I heard it was the gas leak, so I was hoping maybe her car wasn't stolen maybe it was in a shop somewhere."

This is a developing story and we will update this post as we learn more information.
