SPRINGDALE (KFSM) — A lockdown was lifted at Northwest Technical Institute Wednesday (Jan. 24) after a student threatened another student, according to Lt. Jeff Taylor with Springdale police.

According to Taylor, Tyler Hunter, 18, was in an argument with another student when he said he was going to get a gun. Hunter left the school and the other student told administrators, Taylor said.

The school locked the exterior doors, and the lockdown was lifted at about 11:15 a.m. The campus was on lockdown for about an hour.

Taylor said even though there was not immediate threat to the school, everyone including the student who reported it did exactly what they needed to do.

“You may blow it off an think it’s not a big deal, but you never know the state of mind of the person who made that comment,” Taylor said. “So, you always want to err on the side of caution and make sure you let somebody know whether it be an administrator at the school, or call the police or something. Make sure you report things like that.”

He explained that they always take a threat like this seriously no matter where it was made or who made it.

Springdale police found Hunter and cited him into court, Taylor said. They determined that he was unarmed and did not pose a threat to the school or public.

He is facing charges of disorderly conduct and second degree terroristic threatening.
