Honobia man dies after single-vehicle accident on Indian Highway

Dell Ward, 68, was driving on Indian Highway when he failed to negotiate a curve, departed the roadway, and struck a tree.

HONOBIA, Okla. — An Honobia man died after a single-vehicle accident in Leflore County on March 27 around 3:30 p.m., according to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol (OHP). 

Dell Ward, 68, was driving a 2005 Chevrolet Silverado on Indian Highway just north of Honobia when he failed to negotiate a curve, departed the roadway, and struck a tree. 

According to OHP, Ward was pinned down for around 20 minutes before the Honobia Fire Department released him. He was pronounced dead at the scene. 

The passenger of the vehicle sustained head and arm injuries and was transported to a nearby hospital. 

OHP says the cause of the collision and the condition of the driver is under investigation.
