    A landslide victory for three volunteer Fire departments in Washington County. Voters in Round Mountain, Wedington, and Wheeler approved a ballot measure to pay an annual due to help pay operating costs.   • Strong Storms Cause River Valley Power Outages

    Strong, but brief storms in the River Valley left at least 5,800 homes and businesses without power Monday evening. Nearly 5,000 Oklahoma Gas and Electric Customers were left in the dark, after a strong wind gust or broken tree limb damaged a cross arm on a power pole in south Fort Smith, according to company spokesperson Rob Ratley.   • Detectives Search for Missing Washington County Businessman

    Washington County Sheriff’s Department is searching a business outside Fayetteville for clues that could lead to a missing man. Philip Hall, 39, of Fayetteville was last seen Friday, June 29, at a business in Tontitown, according to Kelly Cantrell with the Washington County Sheriff’s Department. Investigators are not calling the disappearance suspicious as of Monday night, Cantrell said.   • Sequoyah County Water Restrictions

    A water shortage prompted the Sequoyah County Water Association to issue water restrictions Friday. Customers could be fined more up to $500 or have their water shut off if they do not comply. Customers are using more water than they can pump, according to Jackie Plank with the Sequoyah County Water Association.     A Washington County home caught fire around 4:30 p.m.Thursday, after teenagers were playing with fireworks on Tyree Mountain Road southeast of Lincoln, according to Sheriff Tim Helder. Winston Williams, 19, told deputies he was shooting off bottle rockets with the homeowner’s two sons, when the grass caught fire.   • Bentonville School District Millage Fails

    A proposed millage tax increase to fund a second high school in the Bentonville School District failed Monday night, 58 to 42 percent. The 6.7 mil increase would have paid for a new 2,000 student high school campus in Centerton and other improvements in the district. There was a large voter turnout, 8,814 voters cast ballots in Tuesday’s election. Early voting numbers were also high, nearly 10 percent, according to election officials.   • Fort Smith Bicyclist Hit by Truck

    A bicyclist was sent to the hospital after being hit by a pickup truck in Fort Smith around 5 p.m. Thursday, near the intersection of Midland and Spradling. The man collided with the truck after he cut in front of it, according to police Sgt. Brian Rice. The victim was taken to an area hospital. Investigators say they are unsure of the extent of his injuries. It’s unlikely the truck driver will be cited, according to investigators.
