Greenland Wins 4A Title in Overtime

The Greenland Lady Pirates beat the Green Forest Lady Tigers, 43-35, in overtime Saturday night to claim the 4A girls state championship.

HOT SPRINGS, Ark. — The Greenland Lady Pirates beat the Green Forest Lady Tigers, 43-35, in overtime Saturday night to claim the 4A girls state championship.

Both teams struggled offensively early, and the game was tied at five after the first quarter. Green Forest led 11-9 at halftime.

After the first half, Greenland shot just 18 percent from the field, and Green Forest was not much better at 23 percent.

The Lady Tigers led most of the way, and entered the fourth leading 21-19. A Green Forest bucket with 48.7 seconds left gave the Lady Tigers a 31-29 lead, but Greenland’s Ashley Hipps tied it on a layup with 8.1 seconds left, and blocked a last second shot from Green Forest to send the game to overtime.

In overtime, Greenland took over, outscoring the Lady Tigers 12-4 in the extra period to claim the 3A state championship.
