FAYETTEVILLE - Arkansas pitcher DJ Baxendale earned his fifth win of the season, while Jimmy Bosco and Matt Reynolds each homered and drove in two runs to lead the fourth-ranked Razorbacks to a 5-3 win over Binghamton in the first game of a doubleheader on Saturday afternoon at Baum Stadium.
The Razorbacks improved to 13-2 on the season, while the Bearcats fell to 0-5 on the year.
A day after hitting four home runs, the Arkansas offense pounded out three more round-trippers, which accounted for all five of Arkansas' runs in the win. Sam Bates hit his second homer of the weekend and fifth of the season. Bosco belted his second homer of the season, while Reynolds hit his third homer of the year. Bosco and Reynolds each tied for the team high with two RBI. Reynolds added two hits, while Derrick Bleeker and Tim Carver also had two hits each. Carver extended his hitting streak to a career-long 12 games and stretched his consecutive games reaching base streak to 15.
Baxendale earned the win to improve to 5-0 on the season. The junior right hander gave up three runs, two of which were earned, on six hits and struck out three in five innings of work. Dating back to last season, Baxendale has won seven straight starts.
Brandon Moore was outstanding out of the bullpen, pitching four shutout innings to earn his first save of the season. Moore struck out five and gave up just one hit in his four innings of work.
In game two five Arkansas pitchers combined for the Razorbacks' second shutout of the weekend as the Razorbacks completed a three-game sweep of Binghamton with a 6-0 win.
Arkansas moved to 14-2 on the season, while Binghamton fell to 0-6.
Randall Fant started for Arkansas and earned his first win of the season, striking out four and allowing four hits in six scoreless innings. The Razorback bullpen handled the rest with Ty Wright, Colby Suggs, Michael Gunn and Barrett Astin combining to throw three scoreless innings.
Binghamton starter Jake Lambert was saddled with his second loss of the season. Lambert allowed three runs on six hits and fanned two in six innings.
Bo Bigham and Joe Serrano each recorded two hits to lead Arkansas offensively. Bigham scored twice and added a RBI, while Serrano also drove in a run. Tim Carver extended his hitting streak to 13 games, going 1-for-2 with a run scored. Carver has also reached base in all 16 games this season.
Arkansas continues its home stand Tuesday and Wednesday with a two-game series against Gonzaga. Game times are set for 6:05 p.m. on Tuesday and 3:05 p.m. on Wednesday.
