Police say a drunk driver lost control and crashed into a sidewalk handrail on a church lawn in Fort Smith.

Shortly after noon Wednesday, officers were dispatched to First United Methodist on N. 16th street.

Danny Proctor, 64, was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated, driving with a suspended license, refusing a breath test and careless driving, according to a police report.

Two passengers in the vehicle told police Proctor was driving west on S. ā€œCā€ and instead of stopping at the intersection, he drove onto the church property. Police say he traveled about 100 feet before hitting an elevated concrete sidewalk and metal handrails.

No one was injured.
