Excitement over the new film, The Hunger Games is building in the area. The Hunger Games, hit theaters at midnight March 23 as the first major blockbuster for 2012 and excitement over it is apparent in the area. The Hunger Games, produced by Lionsgate is a film based on the popular young adult book series by Suzanne Collins.
Showtimes sold out for midnight showings as Razorback Cinema in Fayetteville as well as the Rogers Cinema. Showings at Malco Cinema 16 and Carmike 14 in Fort Smith were also packed with fans.
If the fascination from The Hunger Games has inspired you to pick up on your survival skills you can always head out to the Janet Huckabee Nature Center on Sunday’s. Every Sunday at 2:30 p.m. the Nature Center offers a beginning guide to archery. Future Katniss Archers in the making are even provided the bows and arrows.
An archery course is nothing like what sort of Hunger Game mania has hit New York. The Boston Globe reports one New York Sports Club is offering an elaborate workout routine dedicated to The Hunger Games.
While The Hunger Games involves a fight-to-the-death reality show in a dystopian future, this workout will not involve any actual bloodshed. However, climbing, archery, speed, strength, and even strategy are part of the workout.
Although none of those events are available locally, they may be eventually if Suzanne Collins fictional depiction of America’s future does indeed come to pass. For the time being the only survival of the fittest tests will come from those with enough determination to acquire tickets to this year’s first blockbuster.
Several theaters are now adding additional showtimes for the film to meet ticket demand. Analysts predict The Hunger Games will bring in $120 Million in ticket sales this weekend, making it the top grossing film opening ever in March.
