DENVER – Just a day after Peyton Manning raised the number 18 jersey, Tim Tebow was traded to the New York Jets.

“I’m very thankful for this opportunity, I’m thankful they [fans] believed in me and stuck with me through this whole crazy process, but it’s exciting and I’m excited to be a Jet,”  Tebow said during a Wednesday night confrence call.

What he will do as a back-up to Jet’s quarterback Mark Sanchez remains to be seen, but Tebow himself is optimistic..

“It’s pretty specific. Come in and compete, get better as QB and find ways to help the team in other areas, whatever that means.  Whether it’s short yardage, redzone, wildcat just to help the team,” he said.

The Denver Broncos announced the trade Wednesday night, after it was first reported much earlier in the day. But then it hit a snag. The problem was $5 million in advance salary that is part of Tebow’s contract.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported at about 7 p.m. that the situation had been resolved. “NY has agreed to pay half of the $5 million in compensation back to Denver that was in dispute in Tim Tebow trade,” he says.

The Jets get Tebow and a 7th round draft pick and send Denver 4th and 6th round draft picks.

“Our goal was to do the best thing for Tim and the Broncos, and I believe the opportunity that presented itself with the New York Jets accomplishes that objective,” Executive Vice President of Football Operations John Elway said in a statement. “Tim made a lot of strides last year and has a very promising career ahead of him. If anyone is willing to put the work in to be great, it’s Tim Tebow.

“I have a great deal of respect for Tim and the positive impact he makes both on the field and in the community. He has a bright future in this league, and I’m hopeful he will enjoy continued success with the Jets.”
