A 61-year-old Fort Smith man has been arrested for allegedly robbing a convenience store at gunpoint.
Oscar Wood Stanley was arrested Monday morning on an unrelated Failure to Appear warrant out of Sebastian County, police say. After being questioned he was developed as a suspect in the aggravated robbery that took place at J-Mart on Midland Sunday.
The store clerk told police an older white man entered the store around 3:05 a.m. and asked for a carton of cigarettes. The suspect then raised his shirt to reveal a handgun in his waist band and demanded money from the register, the clerk told police.
Detective Jeff Carter says good surveillance video, where the suspect can be clearly seen, makes his job a lot easier.
“At first he didn't want to admit anything, but when I informed him of the video we had and the evidence that we had, he said you know he just made a bad mistake,” Det. Carter said.
Stanley was booked into the Sebastian County Detention Center on the warrant, as well as, aggravated robbery.
