Additional charges have been filed against 18-year-old Matthew Alan Ferry who was arrested in connection with a shooting that happened near the Kirksey Middle School parking lot on S. 1st Street on April 1.

Ferry is charged with four counts of aggravated assault, possession of a firearm on school property, carrying a weapon, and disorderly conduct.

Police have also arrested 18-year-old Brandon Howard, of Rogers, on a charge of accomplice to battery in the first degree.

An investigation into the shooting revealed Ferry and a juvenile boy got into a fight, police say. During the fight, Ferry pulled a gun and fired several rounds, a police report states.

One of the rounds hit Edwin Saldana, 18, of Rogers. Saldana was taken to Mercy Medical Center. Hospital authorities notified police about the shooting.

Police say witnesses restrained Ferry. He was later taken to the hospital by his family for injuries he sustained during the fight. Officers arrested him after he was released Tuesday.

The investigation is ongoing.

Neighbors to the middle school were concerned the shooting happened on school property.

“Something like that to happen around here, it’s kind of unbelievable,” said Yesenia Sanabria. “I came from California and that’s why we moved here. We came to find a more peaceful and nice environment for our kids and that’s just next door.”

Police say the shooting wasn’t school related.
